Billy Walters started betting on the 1955 World Series when he was 9 years old. He has been winning ever since and has won millions of dollars per week over the years. He was a strong sports bettor and his bets alone could hold the betting session. At one point Billy Walters left the gambling industry and became involved in the stock business.

Unfortunately, this led him to disaster. He was convicted in 2017 of insider trading and sentenced to five years in prison. He is still serving his sentence and will be released on January 20, 2022. Despite being imprisoned, he is still active in his charity. He regularly donates money to a charity for the intellectually handicapped in the Opportunity Village in Las Vegas.

Personal life

Billy Walters is known to many as William Walters. He was born July 15, 1946. Walters is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and retired professional gambler. He is considered one of the most successful sports bettors in Las Vegas for maintaining a winning streak of more than 30 years. After 1987 he only played sports betting and stopped all other gambling. Then he went back to his roots commercially.

In June 2014, he owns a $20 million private jet and seven homes. In 2016, his company had total assets of more than $100million, including eight car dealership business. Walters was an aspiring golfer and the father of three children. He made $400,000 in a hole and more than $10 million in around. But he admitted to losing a million because of blackjack later that night.

Walters donates to the non-profit Las Vegas Opportunity Village for the Intellectually Handicapped. The Walters family has pledged 1 million in grants due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Walters and his wife, Susan, have been honored as village advocates for decades and at the organization’s 11th annual black-tie gala chamomile in 2012. The couple also honored in 1997 by the Las Vegas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Early life

Walters grew up poor in the village and his father died when he was 18 months old. His father was an auto mechanic and his mother was an alcoholic. Shortly after Walters’ father’s death, his mother left with her son and two daughters. He was raised in his home by his grandmother. Walters’s grandmother credits him with being a devout Baptist. To raise seven children, her grandmother worked as a house cleaner and dishwasher. At the age of seven, Walters took out a $40 bank loan for a power loan to start a lawnmower business.

At the age of nine, he starts the paperwork by getting a second loan of $90. His grandmother arranges this loan. Walters’s grandmother died when he was 13 years old. He then moved to Louisville, KY to stay with his mother. There he worked at the bakery in the morning and a gas station the second in the evening. He rented a house from his mother to live. He married shortly before he graduated from high school, which was short-lived. After marriage, they had a child.

Business success

In 1965, Walters began working as a salesman at Lot McMackin Auto Sales, a used car in Louisville. He published the daily newspaper of car advertising and invited advertisers. Every time he sells a car, he sends his daily newspaper to 10 people next to that customer’s house. He sold 32 cars a month, earning $56,000 in 1966, which is now the equivalent of $400,000. Walters set a dealership record by selling cars 80 hours a week. In 1967, he was appointed sales director at Steven Brothers Auto Sales, a dealership, and worked until 1972.

He later started his own business, selling cars to Taylor Boulevard Auto Sales, other dealers across the Southeastern United States. Walters was also involved in sports betting at the time, and in 1981 the automobile industry was ranked as a full-time sports beta. Also, he continues his betting service. Unfortunately, in 1962, he was convicted of possession of a Kentucky gambling record. However, the complaint was later dismissed. He then moved to Las Vegas with his wife, where it was legal to bet on sports.

Gambling career

Walters started gambling in 1955 at the age of nine. He bet his paper route earned money. He lost the bet, but that didn’t stop him from gambling. In 1982 Walters was known as a losing gambler and at the age of 22, he lost 50,000. Walters lost his home during the game of Neutrals pitching, but the winner did not take possession. It took him 18 months to repay the loan. Walters ’rates changed success in the late 30s. In 1986 he asked Caesar Atlantic City to freeze out at the roulette tables for 2 million. 

Walters was reported to have lost $ 1 million at the Las Vegas Blackjack table. Walters has donated $2 million to the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel. The pair noticed a wheel bias and bet on the 7-10-20-27-36. And after playing 38 hours of bets they won $3,800,000. In 1971, at the San Remo Casino in Monte Carlo, he lost the initial record of $ 1,260,000 held by Richard W. Jarecki. Three years later, his “syndicate” won $400,000 at a Las Vegas casino.

Sports betting

In the 1970s, Walters joined the computer group to use computer analysis to analyze sports results. At 39, the 30-year-old Walters had just one losing year. For a few months he ended up in red and by the end of the year, he was always black. He bets on basketball, the NFL, and college football. 

But the Walters have won 3.5 million in Super Bowl XLIV after betting on the New Orleans Saints. He also often placed bets through the “runner” so that the person behind the bet was unknown. In January 2006, he lost to the University of Michigan, betting $2.2 million on the University of Southern California, and won the USC. In 2011, he could earn 50 to 60 million dollars.

Biggest wins & Losses

Billy Walters has a wide portfolio of huge wins as one of the most successful famous sports bettors of all time. He once earned $ 400,000 in a single golf hole and more than million 1 million in a single round. He also bankrolled 3.5 million in Super Bowl XLIV. Through ACME Group Trading, he bets up to 2.2 million per week in the NFL. He makes $15 million per year in annual income from betting alone. However, he did not always win in legal sports betting. He lost everything on the blackjack table. 

Waters often lost a significant amount of money on purpose. Most of his bets were NFL bets that spread quite tightly. Billy Walters gets a release from prison before the end of his sentence. However, he will be placed under house arrest again on January 10, 2022. He is still technically incarcerated, but he can do whatever he wants from home. If he returns to action, he will have to use the runners to bid for his bet.
